The St. James House Hockey League

• Per USA Hockey rules, players are not permitted to play down an age group.
• Players may play up from 6U to 8U on a case by case basis reviewed by STJ Hockey staff.
• Players must have completed at least one session of Learn to Play before participating in the STJ House League.
• All players need a valid 2025-2026 USA Hockey number to register and participate: https://membership.usahockey.com/.

The STJ House Hockey League season kicks off with player evaluations on September 13th and 14th. These evaluations are designed to create balanced teams and ensure competitive play across all divisions. They are not tryouts, but rather an opportunity to assess skill levels for team placement. There are no evaluations for 6U, as rosters will rotate throughout the season. If a player is not yet ready for house league competition, they may be advised to continue in the Learn to Play program for further development.

• 8U 9:00-10:00 AM
• 10U 10:10-11:10 AM
• 13U 11:20-12:20 AM

Off Weekends & Holiday Breaks:

No practices or games will be held on the following weekends.

• PIP Capital Cup: October 10-12
• ACC Fall Classic: November 14-16
• Thanksgiving Break: November 28-30
• Winter Break: December 20 - January 2
• MLK Weekend: January 17-18
• Presidents Day Weekend: February 14-15

Season Schedule:

• Season starts September 13th and concludes on March 8th. 

What is a USA Hockey Membership?

USA Hockey is the governing body of youth hockey in the United States. A USA Hockey membership provides insurance to programs and participants. Membership also comes with a subscription to USA Hockey Magazine, a comprehensive safety program and a path for players to advance in the sport. 

Is USA Hockey Membership required to participate in STJ House League?

Yes, STJ House League participants are required to register independently with USA Hockey at membership.usahockey.com. 

Players will need a 2024-2025 membership number to complete house league registration. The confirmation number required will contain 9 numbers and 5 letters: 123456789XXXXX.

When should I complete USA Hockey membership?

Registration for the upcoming season opens in April every year, players should register for their USA Hockey membership before completing STJ House League registration. 

House hockey is a large time and financial commitment. We expect our players to attend every practice and every game. Hockey is the ultimate team game requiring the commitment of each individual for the betterment of the entire group. While we understand rec hockey may not be your player's first priority, we require clear and consistent communication if players will be unable to attend practices and games.

How can I as a parent be involved in my player's house hockey league experience?

The St. James House League requests volunteers for the following positions for each team each season:

• Team Managers
• Penalty Box Attendants
• Score Clock Operators
• Locker Room Monitors
• Coaches - prior hockey and ice skating experience is a must.
