Lisa Smith

A Division I athlete and coach for almost thirty years, Coach Lisa brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to the St. James Volleyball Club. As a college player, she was conference Rookie of the Year, 4-time First Team All Conference, and 2-time Conference Player of the Year. She was the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Athlete of the Year and was inducted into their athletic Hall of Fame. Over the years, she’s coached U12-U18 girls & boys in club, high school, and private lesson settings. She is CAP I and IMPACT certified and attended multiple GMS and AOC coaching courses over the years. Her passion is to teach young athletes the sport she loves while emphasizing the importance of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. In their first season coaching together, Coach Lisa & Coach Steve led the STJ 12 Navy team to 3 Gold Bracket finishes, including an overall third place finish at the CHRVA Non Bid Regionals (24 teams) and fifth place at South Atlantic Championships (26 teams). Steve & Lisa have three children, all STJ volleyball alumni: Logan (Johnson & Wales University, 2021-2023), Madison (sophomore at Brown University), & Derek (sophomore at Randolph College).
