Training & Classes
We offer American Red Cross certification courses that provide essential lifesaving skills for both you and your community. Programs include Lifeguarding (water rescue and emergency response), CPR/AED (cardiac emergency care), First Aid (medical response for injuries), and Babysitting (child safety and emergency preparedness).

Our commercial lifeguard services and venue management provide end-to-end solutions for private and public aquatics facilities. With certified lifeguards, routine maintenance, and safety compliance, we help create a safe and enjoyable swimming environment tailored to your pool, water park, or waterfront venue's needs.
Triathlon/Events
From triathlons to open-water competitions, The St. James Safety & Rescue delivers professional event safety services. Our team supports athletes and organizers with race-day safety planning, on-site rescue personnel, and emergency response strategies to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all participants.

About Us
Originally established to oversee safety within our aquatics center, the Department of Safety & Rescue has grown into a comprehensive, facility-wide operation supporting all emergency medical and response needs at The St. James. The team provides lifeguard services for a 700,000-gallon, 50-meter competition pool and a 6,000 sq. ft. water park, while also leading safety operations across the broader campus.
Comprised of highly trained professionals—including lifeguards, aquatics technicians, emergency medical technicians, and department officers—the DSR is committed to building a proactive culture of safety for our members, guests, and partners. This award-winning team not only safeguards daily operations but also invests in ongoing training, certification, and leadership development to elevate performance and preparedness at every level.
In 2023, the department expanded beyond The St. James through service contracts supporting lakefront properties, neighborhood pools, swim teams, and open water events—broadening its impact and deepening its expertise in aquatics management and lifesaving services. Looking ahead, the DSR is focused on continued growth throughout Northern Virginia, bringing its proven systems, experienced personnel, and commitment to excellence to new facilities and communities.
