Jorge Iga

Jorge Iga is a Paris 2024 Olympian who has been representing Mexico on the international stage across four Olympic cycles. A scholarship athlete at the University of Arizona, he earned All-American honors in all four years of college and graduated as a Civil Engineer, before continuing his training at Virginia Tech in pursuit of the Olympic dream. At Paris 2024, he brought Mexico back to the Olympic 100m Freestyle for the first time in 32 years.

For over a decade, Jorge attempted to qualify for the Olympic Games. 82 times he stepped up and fell short through setbacks, near misses, and moments that would have led most people to walk away. On his 83rd attempt, what he refers as “82+1”,  the final day of Olympic qualification, in the last event he was eligible to swim, he earned his spot on the Mexican Olympic Team. Jorge understands that nothing meaningful is built in a single moment. The 82+1 is not just his story,  it is his philosophy. Dreams are not achieved, they are constructed, attempt by attempt, through consistency, honest effort, and the willingness to step back up regardless of what came before.

At the 2025 World Championships, Jorge was elected by his peers to serve as Representative of the Americas on the World Aquatics Athletes’ Commission, bringing the athlete voice to the sport’s highest governing body.

Jorge works directly with athletes at every level, from those just finding their love for the sport to those chasing college offers and national standards. He believes deeply in the power of sport to open doors, shape character, and create opportunity. He is passionate about helping young swimmers see how far they can go, while giving them the guidance, belief, and support to chase their goals with confidence and ambition.
