Rec Soccer

The St. James offers several recreational soccer options for beginners.

Discover the Game is our introductory programs, consisting of fun games and activities that introduce players to soccer.

Rec league is a traditional league format, with a weekly practice and game.

All beginner soccer programs rely on parent coaching volunteers to support the professional coaching staff at The St. James.

Rec League is a volunteer- and parent-executed program under the direction of the full time STJ Soccer staff and leadership team.

TSJFC also utilizes Recreational Site Coordinators for each of our locations. Their role is to serve as a direct connection between families and TSJFC, support our volunteer coaches and provide operational support for our Soccer Saturdays. These individuals are a fantastic resource and can provide easy access to information about other programs within the club as well as our player development pathway.

Our rec soccer programs take place in a variety of convenient locations throughout Northern Virginia, including:

• Chantilly, VA: Nysmith School, The nZone
• Ashburn, VA: Bles Park - Loudoun County
• Lovettsville, VA: Lovettsville Community Center Park
• Brambleton, VA: Hanson Park

Rec soccer (recreational soccer) is a beginner-friendly program designed for young players of all skill levels. It’s ideal for young athletes learning the game, building confidence, and enjoying soccer in a fun, supportive environment. No experience is required. Players will learn the fundamentals, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic game rules.

Yes. The St. James offers rec soccer programs year-round in Northern Virginia, including spring, summer, fall, and winter sessions, so players can continue developing their skills throughout the year.

Rec soccer helps young athletes build coordination, fitness, teamwork, and confidence while learning the game in a positive, low-pressure environment focused on development and fun.

Rec soccer focuses on development, fun, and learning the game, while travel/club soccer is more competitive and requires a higher level of commitment. Rec soccer is often the first step before advancing to more competitive programs.
