Maurice Hutton is a nationally recognized track and field coach and program leader. He currently serves as Head Coach and Director of Track & Field and Running at The St. James Academy. He focuses on athlete development, performance excellence, and building sustainable, competitive programs.
Before joining The St. James Academy, Coach Hutton led the track and field program at South County High School in Lorton, Virginia. During his tenure, the program became one of the strongest in the Virginia High School League. His teams won back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023 and earned multiple runner-up finishes. His athletes also achieved strong results at the national level, including a second-place finish in the 4×400m relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals.
Coach Hutton is also the founder and director of the MVP League, an elite development program with more than a decade of impact. Through this program, he has guided dozens of athletes to NCAA Division I opportunities across the United States. His athletes have earned national titles, All-American honors, and placements at top collegiate programs. His work reflects a consistent focus on long-term growth and competitive readiness.
Coach Hutton holds a USATF Emerging Elite certification in sprints and hurdles and was named Nike Coach of the Year in 2023. He competed as a collegiate 400-meter athlete and earned his degree from Virginia State University, with a concentration in decision sciences. He applies a clear, data-informed approach to training while keeping fundamentals and communication at the center of his coaching.
At The St. James Academy, Coach Hutton continues to build a high-performance culture. His goal is to develop one of the nation’s leading track and field programs while preparing athletes for success at the collegiate level and beyond.
