bio
Serena’s field hockey journey began in third grade, right in Loudoun County. She played for Potomac Field Hockey Rapids—now known as the Hammers—throughout middle and high school, where her love for the game truly took root. In high school, she was a part of the group of student athletes that campaigned for the addition of varsity field hockey in Loudoun County, attending school board meetings and even organizing a summer camp to grow the sport. Because of her and others efforts, field hockey was officially added as a varsity high school sport in 2016—Serena’s junior year.
At Potomac Falls High School, Serena made the most of her two years on the varsity team, serving as a 2x team captain and earning All-County, All-Region, and All-State honors both years. She helped lead her team to the State Tournament both seasons, earning recognition along the way with the Athletic Boosters Scholarship and the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.
Serena continued her field hockey career at Shenandoah University, where she graduated in 2022. During her time at SU, she also served on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
After college, Serena returned to her roots, coaching at her former club and high school before joining the coaching staff at the Madeira School in McLean. She also spent a season with HUSEL Field Hockey before joining The St. James. In addition to coaching, Serena is a certified Metro Field Hockey Association Umpire and still hits the field herself, competing in adult leagues around DC.
Serena’s passion for field hockey is driven by a lifelong mission to grow the game—just like she did in high school when she fought to bring varsity field hockey to Loudoun County. Whether she’s coaching, officiating, or playing, she’s always looking for ways to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Fun Fact: Serena traveled to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris to cheer on Team USA Field Hocke
